Get mesmerized with the North and South Auroras

Auroras which is also known as the northern and southern lights or Aurora are natural lights that display in the sky and are usually seen in the night time. These lights are seen in the polar region.  The lights occur in the ionosphere.

These lights are usually visible between sixty five degrees north and seventy tow degrees south.  This somehow puts this spot just within the Arctic and the Antarctic circles as well. These lights go deep in the Polar Regions although these occurrences are infrequent.  However whenever they happen these are visible to the naked eyes.

The northern lights are called as aurora borealis and I names after the famous goddess of roman mythology called aurora.  Broeas is the Greek name for wind. These are also called as the northern polar lights.  You can only see the aurora borealis from the northern hemisphere.  And the closer you go toward the north magnetic pole, the more prominent these would get.

Auroras are usually seen near magnetic poles. If these are over head they would illuminate in a green glowing light or sometimes into a red glowing light. This makes an impression as if the sun is rising from a different direction.

The auroras borealis occur near the equinoxes.  These lights have had many names throughout history. People from the middle ages used to think that these lights are a dance of the spirits and also a sign of the gods.

These southern polar lights also behave in almost the same way.  This is called Aurora Australis . These lights can be seen on our planet and it can also been seen from the surfaces from the other planets.

The intensities of these lights were more the poles due to than magnetism present at the poles.

These are essentially formed due to the emission of photons which rise into the upper part of the earth’s atmosphere. This is about eighty kilometers above the ground.

When ionized nitrogen atoms regain an electron, the oxygen and nitrogen atom in them, start forming excited states which are formed by the collision of solar winds and then these winds and the particles are then funneled down at high speeds and passes through the earth’s magnetic fields. The excitations of these atoms are lost due to the collision of one atom to the other.  And this is what is responsible for creating the different lights and colors.

There is green and brownish red emission is oxygen emission and the blue or red emissions are nitrogen emission.  The color is blue if the atom regains an electron after it has been ionized and the color is red it the atoms are returning to ground state from the excited state.

The solar winds are the ultimate source of energy for lights.  The plasma gases are what the solar winds are made up of.

When an electrical conductor is placed within a magnetic field a motion happens in direction which cuts across rather than going way ahead. The lines of magnetic field is said to be introduced into he conductor so that the electrons neatly flow to it making it a scenic wonder.
