River Cave Diving – An Adventure Class Apart

Traveling is an adventure in itself. If you are of the kinds who love to challenge yourself and put your limits and endurance to a test, then shake the burden, of daily life stress, off your shoulders and widen the bounded area of self-experience. Cutting-edge adventurous trips that cause a rise in the adrenalin levels are not that easy to find in this civilization-junkie time. For adventure cravers, these kind of trips are a holiday in themselves – they don’t need to take separate time for holiday and thrills.

One such adventure filled trip could be taken in an unusual place with unusual activities to do. Norway is the place and the activity is River Cave Diving. Hearing of river diving and caving as two separate activities is common enough. But what is River Cave Diving? Well, let’s see.

Venue: Plura River, Nord-Norge, Norway

Activity: River Cave Diving

The emergence of the Plura River takes place from the entrance of a large cave. It lays in Nord-Norge, about 30 kms away in the northeastern direction of Mo i Rana, a town, in Norway. A diving experience here is unthinkably fantastic. With visibility so excellent, a big passage makes diving with an underwater scooter easy enough. Siphon, section of passage in Plura where the first flood occurs, is long enough – about 450 meters, and a depth of about 34 meters can be reached. There’s a rock in the cave that adds remarks to the scenery. Geological workings have been carried out on this rock which left swirls and patterns on its walls. The erosions caused by the water have only intensified these patterns. The rock is made up of layers which are soluble in water. The ones which are less soluble have caused designs as if hundreds of teeth stand on the rock, which feels, though virtually, as if swimming deep into a huge shark’s mouth!

There lay magnificent chambers once you manage to see beyond the first siphon. The ceilings are high enough to soar up above the diver and silence such deep that even a drop of water leaves echoes as it falls. Experts, with extreme trainings at hand, can have access to passages that are over 100 meters deep, in continuation with the flooded cave. The cave is accessible in a limited way and only diver who are qualified enough to swim through deep and unusually flooded areas are allowed diving beyond limits. There are occasional training courses running at the cave and after passing the tests, you can boast a cave-diving certificate. An option is a cavern diving course that can also be undertaken, which limits your diving till the first 50 meters of the cave, an area still lit with the sun, but equally beautiful to owe an appreciation as the inner areas of the cave – deep inside.
